Quinton Mosley

June 5, 1950 — January 16, 2022

Reidsville

Mr. Quinton Mosley, age 71, passed away Sunday, January 16, 2022, at Candler County Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

MR. QUINTON MOSLEY was born on June 5, 1950, to the late Scott and Ossie Mae Mosley in Tattnall County, Georgia. He graduated from Tattnall County Industrial High School in 1968. He played football and received numerous awards in electrical wiring, livestock, and cabinet making through the Future Farmers of America. Little did he know that his FFA advisor, John N. Kunney, would later become his father-in-law! After graduation Quinton joined the United States Air Force and served as an Airman 1st Class. His job title was Aircraft Technician, and he was responsible for airframe repair on transport aircrafts. He was honorably discharged due to hardship/ dependency because he was the last male child of the family line.

Upon returning home he worked on the family farm with his father, Scott Mosley, Sr. growing vegetables and tending livestock. He was later employed at Claxton Fruitcake, Claxton Poultry (catching chickens at night), and Federal Pacific (later known as Thomas and Batts). During a layoff from Federal Pacific, he worked with his brother Scott Mosley, Jr. (ST) of Scott Mosley Construction in Savannah renovating houses. He received certifications in the areas of brick mason, welding, and house wiring from the school that was previously named Savannah Technical. Upon returning to Federal Pacific, he was promoted to Shift Supervisor, where he was responsible for the production of service entry meter cans.

In 1979 he joined a group of investors who formed the East Georgia Development Corporation with the intent of looking for properties and possible business opportunities for African Americans. The corporation searched for business opportunities in Tattnall, Liberty and Bullock counties. Quinton served as Secretary, Treasurer and Vice President of EGDC. In 1982 the shareholders voted to purchase property in Reidsville and established the Reidsville Gulf Service Station.

In 1985 Quinton took a voluntary layoff from Federal Pacific and began working at Reidsville Gulf. To enhance his skills, he attended Swainsboro Technical College and received an Automotive Technician degree. He was the first student at the time to make a perfect score on the exam!

Forty years ago, Quinton caught the eye of a young lady. He had known her all her life because of his association with his mentor and business partner, John Kunney. On June 5, 1992, Wanda Jean Kunney and Quinton were united in holy matrimony. Quinton was well known throughout the county for his meticulous mechanic skills and honesty. If he couldn’t repair your vehicle, he would tell you. Many dropped by to receive advice and counsel on topics ranging from finance to life. Quinton was an avid farmer and was well known for his produce.

He learned his farming skills from his father, who was also well known for his entrepreneurship in vegetables. Many looked forward to his watermelons, peas, collard greens, squash, cantaloupes, sweet potatoes, muscadine grapes, and many other delectable vegetables. He will truly be missed by his family, friends, and the community at large.

Quinton began attending St. Williams Missionary Baptist Church as a child and was an avid reader of the Bible. Quinton departed this life on January 16, 2022, at Candler County Hospital in Metter, Georgia due to complications from COVID. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Earnton Mosley, Sr., Scott (ST) Mosley, Jr., Catherine Mosley Turner, Ivea Mosley, Sr., and Clanzie Mosley.

He leaves to cherish many fond and loving memories: his loving wife, Wanda Jean Kunney Mosley; son, Jamie O.
