Rabun D. Phillips

Mr. Rabun D. Phillips, age 71 passed away Thursday, March 13, 2014 at the Meadows Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family.  He graduated from Reidsville High School in 1961.  He joined the Army National Guard in high school and served with that organization for three years.  He joined the United States Air Force in 1963 and spent three years in Germany.  He later joined the Air Force National Guard and served in the 165th Tactical Airlift Group.  He served them for seventeen years and flew to many countries.  Upon completing his service in the United States Air Force, he returned to Reidsville and worked at Georgia State Prison for six months.  In 1967, he went to work at the U.S. Post Office in Ludowici and was appointed Postmaster at that location in 1971.  In 1988 he was appointed Postmaster at the Post Office in Reidsville where he remained until his retirement in 2000.  In 2001 he joined the staff of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Homes.  Rabun was a member of the Pineview Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.  He was a member of the Reidsville Lions Club for the past 43 years where he had served in a variety of offices including president.  He was a member of Savannah Association of Flying Air National Guard, National Association of Retired Postmasters, Altamaha Heritage Group, Tattnall County Jaycees, and the National Association of Federal Employees.  He was a member of the charter class of Leadership Tattnall in 1990 and served on the Tattnall County Library Board for several years. He was a Ham Radio Operator.  In 2013, Rabun was named the Tattnall County Citizen of the Year.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Alma Phillips.

He is survived by his wife of 46 wonderful years, Janice Brazell Phillips of Reidsville; daughters and sons-in-law, Deidra and James Corbitt of Reidsville, Rhonda and Keith Dasher of Glennville; son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Jodi Phillips of Hobe Sound, FL; brother and sister-in-law, Zane and Lynda Phillips of Harvest, AL; sister and brother-in-law, Emmalyn and Cliff Wilson of Tupelo, MS; grandchildren, Leah and Austen Corbitt, Ansley Phillips, Ciara and Ryan Dasher, Stephanie and Jason Noel, John and Justin Warrington; great granddaughter, Callie Faith Noel; several nieces, nephews and his beloved pets.

Visitation will begin at 6:00pm Friday from the Reidsville Chapel.  Funeral services will be conducted 3:00pm Saturday, March 15, 2014 from the Pineview Baptist Church with the Reverends Gregg Usry and Steve Miller officiating.  Interment will follow in the Reidsville City Cemetery with military honors.

Pallbearers will be the Deacons of the Pineview Baptist Church.  Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Reidsville Lions Club and the Reidsville High School Class of 1961.
