Collins,
Mr. Ray Hightower, age 86, passed away Sunday, October 31, 2021, at Oxley Park Nursing Home in Lyons. He was born December 28, 1934, in Tattnall County to Jim Roe and Sweeter Hutcheson Hightower and had lived in Collins most of his life. Hopeful to see the world, Ray enlisted in the U.S. Navy early in his life to ultimately go on to serve his country during the Korean War. Ray would continue public service as a Correctional Officer with the Georgia Department of Corrections spanning a career of 34 years. In retirement, his granddaughters and great-grandchildren brought him joy and he loved plying his “tinkering” and self-taught mechanic skills on vintage automobiles. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife of Naomi Oliver Hightower, daughter, Tona Rae Hightower, son, Johnny Blaine Hightower, siblings, Roe Hightower, and Louie Hightower.
He is survived by his daughter, Sabrina (Jim) Patterson; granddaughters, Melissa Riggs Sapp, Megan (Paul) Evans, Jincy (Scott) Wallace; great-grandchildren, Tucker Thigpen, Scarlet Evans, Jagger Evans, Bryson Sapp, Cooper Evans, and Briggs Sapp; sister, Wilma Jean Hutcheson; brother, Larry Hightower; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside memorial services will be held 3:00 pm on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at Little Flock Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with CDR James G. Patterson, Jr. United States Navy, Retired officiating.
The family would be honored by donations in memory of Ray Hightower to be given to the Korean War Veterans Association, Inc 1625 Madison Ave. Charleston, IL61920
