Savannah
Deacon Rayfield Samuel was born on January 6, 1933, to the
late Walter, Sr. and Josephine Samuel. He attended Effingham
County Training School. Upon completion of this training he
served in the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge
in 1961. He then attended Savannah State College. He was
employed with Beasley Construction Company for over 30
years before his retirement. Deacon Samuel served as a devoted
member and Deacon of Miller’s Temple First Born Church
for over forty years. Deacon Samuel was married to the late
Thelma Samuel for thirty-five years.
He leaves to mourn five daughters, Betty Curtis, Barbara Brown
(Edward), Carolyn Curtis, Cherry Coppock Holland (Tracey) and
Rachel Gordon (Bodua); one son, Capt. Jerry Coppock (Michelle); a
loving God-daughter, Tanya Ervin (Kiwani); grandchildren, Ashley
Curtis, Andre Curtis, and Shayla Curtis; great-granddaughter,
Leanna Curtis; a host of other grands, great-grands, nieces,
nephews and other relatives including his siblings Dr. Ann M.
Henderson, Ruby Sims, Walter Samuel Jr., and Pastor Lucille
Jones. He was predeceased by his siblings, Minister Mary
Harris, Pastor Catherine Holmes, Vernon Samuel, and James
Samuel. He also leaves to mourn very special friends, Ms. Gracie
Williams and family, Jerry and Brenda Lamb, and Charles
Ellison.
To our dear Brother: Even though you are resting with our
other siblings, we love you and will miss you dearly.
