Mrs. Rebecca Pauline Davis Hutson,
age 88, passed
away peacefully on Friday, January 14, 2011 at her
daughter’s home in Okeechobee, FL where she was
cared for by Big Lake Hospice of Okeechobee.
She was born September 3, 1922 in the Altamaha community in rural Tattnall County, GA to Paul Elza and Claudia Estelle Carter Davis. She graduated from Richmond Hill High School and went to work in Savannah, GA at Hunter Air Force base and the Veterans Administration. She married Thomas M. Hutson, Jr. of Savannah on November 7, 1946 in Dillon, SC. They lived in Savannah, Tallahassee FL, Jacksonville, FL, where she lived most of her life, and then moved to Okeechobee two years ago. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She was a volunteer for the Red Cross for several years in Tallahassee and Jacksonville. She loved to sew, read and work crossword puzzles. Mrs. Hutson was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Nadine Davis Garland and her bothers Samuel, Wendell, Ernest and Jack Davis.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Thomas M. Hutson, Jr. of Okeechobee, her daughter, Pam Newcomer of Okeechobee, her sons and daughters in law, Michael T. and Amy Hutson of Tallahassee, FL and Kenneth D. and Pok Sun Hutson of Niceville, FL and her six grandchildren, John and Jim Lakin, Angela and Daniel Hutson and Rebecca and Gerald Newcomer. She also is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 5:00pm on Friday, January 21, 2011 at the Reidsville Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00am Saturday, January 22, 2011 from the Reidsville Chapel at the funeral home with the Reverend Steve Miller officiating. Interment will follow in the Providence Baptist Church Cemetery in Lyons, GA.
