Collins GA,
Richard Ronald Higgs, age 69, passed away at his residence on Sunday, October 22, 2017 after an extended illness. The Collins native was a lifelong resident of Tattnall County. He was retired from Tattnall County Road Department where he was the County Road Superintendent. In addition to working for the county he was, for several years, Chief of Police in Collins. He was also a county Reserve Deputy for many years. His entire life he has been an avid outdoorsman; imparting his skills and knowledge of hunting and fishing to many. After retirement, he found a new joy in raising beagles. His dogs, among the best around, were sought after by many hunters. Never one to bite his tongue, you always knew where you stood with Richard. His outgoing, straightforward personality, and resounding love for his family will leave a huge void that no one else can fill. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, R.J. and Margaret Higgs and a brother, Mandell Higgs.
Left to cherish his memory are his “Ma”, Deana Rhiner; a daughter, Cherry Marie (Bobby) Williams of Metter; four step-children, Brandy Kirkland, Neal (Samantha) Bunch, Cory Kirkland all of Reidsville and Karin Bunch of Lyons; four chosen children, Randy Rhiner of Collins, Jordy Rhiner of Cobbtown, Cody Rhiner of Manassas, and Roxanne (Colton) Bland of Glennville; a brother, Larry (Sheila) Higgs of Claxton; a sister, Marie (Therrell) Sapp of Claxton; brother in law and sister in law, Dicky and Heather Stanfield of Petaluma CA; several grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends also survive.
