Richard Alton Spikes, Sr. passed away peacefully on June 12, 2024. Born on October 18, 1954, to L.A. and Doris (Aldridge) Spikes, Richard grew up in St. Mary’s, Georgia, where he attended Camden County schools for his formative education.

Shortly after graduating, Richard married the love of his life, Angelia Toliver, on February 22, 1975. They shared a beautiful life together for over 46 years until her passing. He was a rebel in every sense of the word, often challenging mainstream norms and proudly embracing his individuality.

Richard was always ready to host a pool party, with classic rock and roll playing on the stereo. He manned the grill, cooking for everyone to enjoy. His love for motorcycles was a lifelong affair, and he owned many throughout his life, a passion he passed on to his children. Whether fishing on a quiet afternoon or strumming his guitar, Richard found peace in the simple things of life. He cherished the great outdoors, where he could admire and appreciate all of God’s creation and the blessings bestowed upon him.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Angelia, his parents, two sisters, Linda and Ann, and a granddaughter, Hailey Hutto.

Richard is survived by his two sons, Richard “Rick” A. Spikes, Jr., and Gary D. Spikes, both of Yulee, FL; his daughter, Misty Hutto of White Oak, GA; seven grandchildren, Charley Hutto, Rick Spikes III, Simone’ Spikes, Destini Spikes, Alex Spikes, Landon Spikes, and Brianna Spikes; and one great-grandchild, Mila Hutto Toro. He also leaves behind a brother, Gary L. Spikes of Orlando, FL; a step-sister, Beth Aldridge-Milliken of Yulee FL; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends made along life’s way.

In true rebel fashion, the family is honoring Richard’s wishes to be set free to the whims of the tides and wind. To that end, a private scattering service will be held at a later date.

Low Country Cremation and Burial has the honor to serve the Spikes family.
