Robert J. Matthews

Mr. Robert J. Matthews, age 70, passed away Friday, July 5, 2019 at his residence surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Southern Regency Hospice.  He was born in Shawnee, OK on October 14, 1948 to JC and Emma Jean Matthews.  He lived most of his life in Los Angeles, California before recently moving to Claxton.  Mr. Matthews was a US Air Force Verteran and retired from McDonald Douglas as an airplane mechanic.  He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mrs. Rita Matthews of Claxton; children, Josie (Jacob) Jackson of Claxton, Casey Matthews of Los Angeles, Ronnie Matthews of Los Angeles, and Robert J. Matthews, Jr. of Texas; sisters, Linda ( Michael) Miller and Donna Obler both of Nevada; grandchildren, Lexis Vance and Andrew Matthews; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 3:00pm Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery with military honors rendered by the US Air Force.
