Robie Evelyn Fort, age 85, passed away on July 15, 2020 at Oxley Park Rehabilitation in Lyons, Georgia.
She was born November 4, 1934, In Lyons, Georgia. She has lived in Reidsville for 67 years. She graduated from Collins High School Collins, Georgia. She was a member of Reidsville Baptist Church.
She worked at Roydon Wear shirt factory in her younger years in Reidsville and she retired from Tattnall County School System in Reidsville. She was a Tattnall County historian by life experience. There may not be another person in Tattnall County who could tell a person their family tree for five generations having known every one of them.
She was a Stanley Home Products dealer for over 50 years. She also worked at the Hospital in Reidsville for many years. She enjoyed doing volunteer work and was involved in many projects in the Reidsville area for many many years. She was a past president of V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary in Reidsville. She served as a Pink Lady for many years and was a fixture at the local Blood Drives doing her part in serving the community.
She enjoyed going on trips with her sisters and brothers sightseeing and vacationing.
She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond W. Fort , Her father Johnny T. Cranford and her Mother Rosa Nell Cranford, Her Brother Gene Cranford and her granddaughter Jemima Chiv Fort.
She is survived by her Son, Dr Edward Fort of Chicago, Illinois and 8 Grandchildren. Job & Sabrina Fort of North Pole, Alaska, Elisabeth and Kyle Austin of Columbia City, Indiana, Anna and Jospeh McBurney of Evans, Colorado, Sarah Fort—Wichita, Kansas, Grace and Steven Whitlock of Lexington, South Carolina, Ruth Fort of Atlanta, Georgia, Paul Fort of Kapolei, Haiwaii, Esther Fort of Evans, Colorado.
She is survived by 7 siblings. Dorothy Helen Thaxton of Brunswick, Georgia, Doris Beam of Buford, Georgia, Rosa Lee Skinner of Hoschton, Georgia, Ray and Mary Cranford of Guyton, Georgia, Jesse and Glenda Cranford of Reidsville, Georgia, Julian and Sharon Cranford of Hillsboro, Oregon, Dean Cranford of Reidsville, Georgia and several dozens of nieces and nephews. Fred Cowart is a special nephew. His Aunt Robie cared for him off and on in his formative years and he considers his aunt as a second mom.
Funeral Services will be conducted 11:00am Saturday July 18th 2020 at Reidsville Baptist Church in Reidsville, Georgia with Dr. Edward Fort and Dr. Charles Jonas officiating. Burial following at Little Flock Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations are accepted towards the funeral made out to Mission Independent Baptist Church, 1766 W. Devon Ave Chicago, Illinois 60660 773-267-9132
