Reidsville/Glenwood
Ronald Egbert Prestage, age 53, passed away suddenly at his home in Glenwood on Monday, April 23, 2018. The Reidsville native was born on February 21, 1965 to the late Horace Watson and Geraldine Thompson Prestage. From an early age, Ronald loved animals. One day, his love for animals found him in a dumpster saving a whimpering puppy. This one pup grew to become his beloved companion, Sunny. Sunny was by his side all of his remaining days, including the day he passed away. Ronald was a 1984 graduate of Pinewood Christian Academy and later went on to study at Brewton Parker College prior to enlisting in the U.S. Navy. As a Corpsman in the Navy, he was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal for heroic actions in the line of duty. Exposing himself to grave danger, he responded to an injured Marine in the minefield surrounding Guantanamo Bay. His selfless act of service ensured that responding medics were able to extricate the wounded Marine safely. After his discharge, he explored various vocations always living his days to the fullest. He was preceded in death by his partner, Rick Anderson, his parents and a brother, Dale Prestage.
Ronald is survived by his siblings, Diane Prestage, Watson Prestage, Anita Prestage, and twin brother Donald Prestage; close friend, Troy Anderson; several nieces, nephews, and a community of friends also survive.
