Ronald "Trey" Henry Smiley II

November 30, 1980 — June 8, 2024

Reidsville

Ronald H. Smiley, II, affectionately known as Trey, was born on November 30, 1980, in Savannah, Georgia, and passed away peacefully at his residence on June 8, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with an extended illness. Trey spent much of his life in his beloved hometown of Savannah. He attended Benedictine Military School and pursued higher education at Armstrong Atlantic University, where he earned a degree in forensic sciences. Following his graduation, Trey embarked on a distinguished career with the City of Savannah Police Department as a forensic investigator, a role he served in with dedication for over 20 years. His expertise and commitment to justice later led him to the Georgia Ports Authority, where he continued his work in forensics for over five years until his declining health necessitated his retirement. Upon retiring, Trey relocated to Tattnall County, embracing a slower-paced lifestyle. An avid outdoorsman, he found joy in hunting, fishing, and camping, passions that brought him peace and fulfillment.

Those who knew Trey would unanimously agree that he was the life of any social gathering. Always the comedian, he had a unique ability to lift spirits and bring laughter to any room. Trey's love for people was evident in his unwavering loyalty and generosity; if you ever had the privilege of knowing him, you knew you had a true friend for life. He was known for his selflessness, often performing random acts of kindness for those less fortunate, whether it was buying food, cooking meals, purchasing clothes, or even providing furniture for those in need.

Above all else, Trey had a deep love for his God. He found solace in daily devotion and prayer, drawing strength from the scriptures. He attended Liberty Baptist Church. His legacy of love, generosity, and unwavering faith will forever be remembered by all who had the honor of knowing him. Trey is preceded in death by his father, Jim Rowan.

Left to cherish memories of a life well lived is his wife, Carrie Daniels Smiley of Reidsville; mother, Debra Lynn Rowan; father, Ronald (Janet) Smiley of Garden City; two chosen sons, Chase Reynolds of Savannah and Cole Horne of Reidsville; siblings, Joshua (Chandler) Smiley of SC, Morgan (Ben) Starkey of Richmond Hill, and Abby Smiley of OK; best friend, Dan Reynolds of Savannah; cousin that is like a brother, Justin Smiley of SC; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless friends made along life’s journey also survive.
