Saint Simons Island
Rooks Boynton, age 75, a resident of Saint Simons Island, Georgia, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 26, 2017 due to Congestive Heart Failure. Rooks was born on June 9, 1942 in Valdosta, GA to Marion and Carolyn Boynton, grew up in Adel, GA. He graduated from Cook County High School in 1960 where he was senior class president and an Eagle Scout. He was selected as a delegate to the Boys State of GA and Boys Nation in Washington D.C. He lettered in football, basketball, and track. Rooks was an All-State center and linebacker and went on to play football for The University of Georgia Bulldogs. He was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity, on the ROTC Perishing Rifle Team, and Executive Roundtable. He graduated with a BBA from the Terry College of Business in 1965. Rooks met his wife, Anna Blocker of Glennville GA at UGA, they were married for 39 years. Rooks and Anna had two wonderful children, Heath and Heidi and lived in Stone Mountain, GA. Rooks began his career working for Georgia Power, and then worked as an executive sales rep for Georgia Highway Express. Rooks was passionate about his country, politics and Georgia Football. A few years after Anna’s death in 2005, Rooks was blessed to find the love and companion and current wife, Veronica Joseph Boynton. Rooks was a life-long Christian and founder of Rooks Boynton Ministries. He served as the Georgia Chairman for the National Day of Prayer and the Year of the Bible 1983 , and as a Board Member for Georgia FCA. He devoted much of his time to caring for those in his life and helping to further the business interests of those that called him friend. He was a people person and loved sharing his faith with others. Rooks was preceded in death by his wife Anna and his son Heath.
He is survived by his wife Veronica Boynton; daughter and son-in-law, Heidi and Brett Butler of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Brittany, Lee, and Lauren Butler, and sister and brother-in-law Nancy and Wayne Forte.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00pm, January 2, 2018 at St. Simons Community Church. The family will receive visitors at 1:00pm at the church prior to the service. Graveside services will he held 2:00pm Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, GA. Glennville Funeral Home is serving the Boynton family.
