Rufus Floyd Futch

June 13, 1928 — December 4, 2016

Rufus Floyd Futch, 88, of Statesboro, went to be with his Lord and Savior, at 7:20pm on Sunday, December 4, 2016 surrounded by family and friends.

A native of Bulloch County, he was born June 13, 1928 to Jacob Albert and Mary Ellen Sheffield Futch, who preceded him in death. He was married to Judy Zetterower Futch for 58 years.

He was an honorary graduate of Statesboro High School. He was a veteran, having served in the Air Force. He earned the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was a retired teacher having taught Voc Tech at Warner Robbins High, Savannah High, and Statesboro High Schools.

After retiring, he volunteered at Concerted Services and was Board Chair. During that time, he was awarded the Outstanding Volunteer Award; the Altamaha Area Outstanding Volunteer Award, and the D.C. Anderson Volunteer of the Year. In 1993, he was awarded the Deen Day Smith Award for service to the community.

He was a member of the Statesboro Primitive Baptist Church where he was a member of the Beamon Newman Bible Study Class. He served in capacity as custodian of the church for over a decade.

Some of his favorite things included being with his family and friends; watching the hummingbirds; watching old westerns and Matlock; enjoyed doing seek-a-words; loved eating whiting fish caught by son, Floyd, at the coast; loved Bluegrass music and the companionship with the Bluegrass groups.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob Albert and Mary Ellen Sheffield Futch, three brothers, John M. Futch, William Futch, and James Albert Futch, Jr. and two sisters, Edna Blanche Futch Etheredge and Mary Christine Payne.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Judy Zetterower Futch; a son and daughter-in-law, Floyd and Dr. Lynn Deal Futch; a son and daughter-in-law, Elder Jake and Kim Frost Futch; a daughter and son-in-law, Miriam and Don Futch Love; grandchildren, Hunter Futch, Sally Marie Futch, Lindsay Futch, Chad Love, Madelyn Love, Hayden Futch, and Luke Futch; nephews and nieces, Janet Smith, Carol Morgan, Ann Sexton; Alvin Payne, Richard Payne, Tony Payne, Tommy Payne, Alicia Payne Klouser; Jean Gaschler, Becky Smith, Patty Futch; Donna Nichols

Visitation: 1:30-2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Statesboro Primitive Baptist Church, 4 S. Zetterower Street, Statesboro, GA. Funeral Service with graveside (Eastside Cemetery) following: 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at Statesboro Primitive Baptist Church, with Elder Randy Waters, officiating. Pallbearers will be Todd Hutchens, Tommy McBride, Alvin Payne, Tony Payne, John Allen Smith, and Alan Tankersley. Honorary Pallbearers are members of the Beamon Newsome Class.
