Solomon Leroy Gipson, age 72 passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at Coastal Manor Nursing Home. He was a native of Alabama and was the oldest of nine children. He attended Keith High School in Orroville, Alabama. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to go fishing, camping and boating with his family. His greatest joy was his family and preparing meals for them. At one time, he was employed by Chrysler Corporation and he then later drove a bus for the city of New York. However, he loved working with his hands and after his move to California in 1975; he opened King Solomon’s TV Repair Shop in Oakland, California. In, 1997, the family moved to Sacramento, California where Solomon reopened and operated his television repair shop until he was no longer able. Solomon loved God and expressed his joy by singing. The family was members of Century Chapel CME Church where he was a lead singer of the men’s choir. In 2007, the family relocated to Hinesville, Georgia. Solomon enjoyed his retirement and enjoyed going fishing, reading, spoiling his grandchildren and participating in the local senior group activities. The family found a church home at Baconton Missionary Baptist Church where he attended and sang in the men’s choir. Solomon lived his life to the fullest until his death.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Denese Gipson; sons, Tracy Parker and Solomon (Stephanie) Gipson, Jr; daughters, Nichele (Stanley) Johnson, Brenda Williams and Anita Ash-Shakoor; brothers, Alfred Gipson, Arthur (Teresa) Gipson, Tabe (Alicia) Gipson; sisters, Rose Rand, Julia (Quincel) Sturdivant, Mary Hunter, Lula (Carlton) Williams; grandchildren, Latesha, Shalon, Shalonda, Jalyn, Taylor, Jordon, Assata, Kennedy, Alil; great-grandchild, Quirdar Parker; also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Services will be conducted 1:00pm, Friday, May 12, 2017 at Baconton Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Herman Scott, Reverend Ann Jackson and Reverend Deron Harper officiating.
