Susan Emma Hopkins, age 101, died Friday, December 23, 2016, in the presence of family at Autumn Care Nursing Home in Saluda, North Carolina due to complications with pneumonia.  She was born on February 24, 1915 in Lewistown, Illinois to Stanley and Lucille Millard.  She was married to John S. Hopkins on December 3, 1933 in Orlando, Florida.  She and her husband lived in Glennville from 1973 until 1998 after retiring from a family-owned well drilling business in Brooksville, Florida.  She has lived with or around family for the past 18 years due to health issues.  She enjoyed reading and studying the Bible and was known as a prayer warrior by her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John S. Hopkins, her brother, John Millard, her daughter, Beverly Barnett, her son, John Hopkins, her daughter, Wanda Rieves, and her parents.  She is survived by her daughter, Varonica Phillips of Tryon, NC; grandchildren Jimmy (Beth) Barnett of Glennville, Scott (Connie) Barnett of Belleville, GA, Nyle (Gary) Melton of Marion, NC, John (Melissa) Hopkins of Knoxville, TN, Hollie (Mike) Mullen of Covington, GA, Wendy Rieves of Auburndale, FL, Jamie Rieves of Auburndale, FL, Buddy (Annie) Hopkins of Lake City, FL, Bobbi (Darryl) Russell of Saluda, NC, Jonathan Womack of Hendersonville, NC, Corey Womack of Charlotte, NC, and Kenny (Christy) Shockley of Peachtree City, GA; niece, Mary Ann (James) Nix of Hendersonville, NC; nephews Pat (Lydia) Millard of Hendersonville, NC, Mike (Tricia) Millard of New Smyrna, FL; and 12 great-grandchildren.

A private service is planned for family, and she will be buried in the Glennville City Cemetery with her husband.  Low Country Cremation and Burial of Glennville was in charge of the arrangements.
