Glennville
Theodocia Kicklighter Padgett passed away at her son’s home in Garden City, Georgia on March 8, 2014, surrounded by family. She was 94 years old. Docia was born in Glennville on November 11, 1919 to Ross and Guydell Kicklighter. She was the fifth of 12 children. She is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Docia married Marcus Padgett on August 25, 1934. Marcus and Docia made their first home in Glennville, then moved to Darien while Marcus owned and operated shrimp boats. They returned to the Glennville Padgett homestead near Bluff Lake where Marcus worked timber and raised cattle. Docia worked at The Mascot in Glennville. Docia loved her family more than anything. She was a wonderful homemaker and was famous for her fried chicken, shrimp, fish, fresh vegetables, pound cake, and pecan pies. Granny was the epitome of selflessness, always serving and helping those around her. She loved her home in Glennville and many friends and relatives. Docia was preceded in death by her husband, Marcus in 1991.
She is survived by her three children, Larry (Linda) of Morgantown, WV; James (Betty) of Garden City, GA; and Betty (Jerry) of Orem, UT; sisters, Audrey Padgett of Darien, Theda Ward of Baltimore, Juanita Moody of Glennville, Alva Grace Allen of Baxley; sisters-in-law Dolly Kicklighter of Glennville, Irma Kicklighter of Glennville; 15 grandchildren, and 53 great –grandchildren and numerous other relatives also survive.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to James and daughter-in-law Betty and their family who cared for Granny in her final years, as well as to nurses and healthcare providers including Paula, Liz, Catherine, Carole, Kim, and many others.
Visitation will begin 10:00am, Saturday, March 15, 2014 with funeral services to be conducted at 11:00 am both from the Glennville Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Pigot Branch Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
