Mr. Thurmon Smith, age 78, passed away Friday, June 21, 2019 at his residence. He was native of Collins, GA and lived in New York for many years, where he worked at the hospital as a custodian. After retiring at the hospital he moved back to Tattnall County. He was a member of St. Williams Baptist Church and is preceded in death by his mother, Tackler Smith, father, Harvey Smith, son, Deon Walker, and a sister, Doretha Smith.
He is survived by his wife, LaVerne W. Smith of Reidsville; children, Thurmon Smith Jr. of New York, Renee Smith of North Carolina, Chris Walker Sr, of Jacksonville, FL, and Penny Smith of Jacksonville, Fl; brother, Melvin Smith of Collins; sisters, Margie (Richard) Sharpe of Chicago, Lorine Holmes of North Carolina, Corine Griffin of North Carolina, Novella McKinnon of Claxton, and Lillian Griffin of Collins; grandchildren, Jaylon Smith of New York, LeFaith Shields of North Carolina, Antonio Fate of Savannah, LaShae Walker of Manassas, Desire Williams of Lyons, Jalisa Walker of Jacksonville, Chris (Kurtisha) Walker of Vidalia, Xavier and Briasia Lewis of Jacksonville, great grandson, Zaiden Seals of Jacksonville, FL; host of nieces and nephews and a special friend, Gene McKinnon.
The family will receive friends beginning at 6:00pm on Friday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00am Saturday, June 29, 2019 at St. Phillips Baptist Church with the Rev. Wardell Rawls officiating. Interment will follow in the Sandhill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Anthony Hicks, Chris Walker, Jr, James Smith, Willie Henry Smith, Marcel Smith, and Tim Smith
Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Sharpe, Henry Smith, Jr, Herbert Smith, and Raymond Smith.
Low Country Cremation and Burial is serving the Smith family.
