Reidsville GA
Tony Nichols, age 67, passed away at his residence on Thursday, July 11, 2019. The Greenville NC native, moved to Tattnall County in 2008 after marrying Mary Hart, a native of Toombs County. Tony led a professional life of service and dedication to his country. He was a 20-year veteran of the United States Army. Over the course of his service, he was involved in special operations as a medical director. During this assignment, Tony was instrumental in the conversion of medical systems for the United Arab Emirates. Following his long and decorated service in the Army, he embarked upon his second career. Just as in the Army, he was dedicated to improving lives; this time in the private sector as the Director of Migrant Outreach for Meadows Memorial Hospital. As director, he worked closely with migrant families to assist with the medical and educational needs of the children. Once again, after 20 years in dedication to helping others, he retired. Throughout the years, he was a practicing herbalist; he grew and taught the use of various herbs to treat a multitude of ailments. His healing salves and balms were highly sought out. More recently, in his free time he discovered a passion for renovating and remodeling old homes. His skills grew with each renovation and he found comfort in turning an “old house” into a new home. Above all else in his life though, Tony loved the Lord. He was a dedicated member of Cedar Crossing Baptist Church. A shining example of service above self, Tony will be sorely missed by all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Connie Nichols and a daughter, Shannon Nichols Bolin.
Left to keep his loving memory alive are his wife, Mary Hart Nichols of Reidsville; children, Jessica Haller of Ohio, Jeb (Gloria) Cowart and DuAnn (Lee) Davis all of Reidsville; sisters, Lynn Nicholas of Greenville, NC and Patricia Marie Nichols of Panama; six grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends beginning at 3:00pm on Saturday at the funeral home with the funeral service to follow at 4:00pm in the Chapel of Low Country Cremation and Burial with Reverend Reece Mincey officiating. A private interment will follow in the Providence Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jeb Cowart, Lee Davis, Herschel Hart, Bee Hart, Ryan Hart, and Logan Hart.
Memorials may be given to National Epilepsy Foundation or the Vidalia Women’s Shelter.
