Reidsville,
Travis D. Sanders, age 55, passed away at his residence on Sunday, April 25, 2021. The Toombs County native moved to Reidsville shortly after graduating from high school and went to work at Georgia State Prison. During his 30-year career with Georgia Department of Corrections, he would attain the rank of Captain. Working in such a high stress job, Travis’ favored time way to unwind was fishing. The family recalls that his favorite spot to fish was, “Anywhere he could”! When he was not working or fishing, he could be found watching football or basketball on the television. Of course, sports and grilling go hand in hand, and Travis was renowned for his BBQ talents. A man dedicated to his career and his family; Travis will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Herbie Dean Sanders.
Left to cherish memories of a life together are his two children, Crystal Sharpe of Reidsville, and Travis “Junior” Sanders, II of Vidalia; four grandchildren, Harmony Smith, Haylee Sharpe, Harli Smith, and Zalyah Sanders; his parents, Joe Louis Sanders Sr and Jeanette Phillips both of Lyons; three sisters, Mavis (Milton) Sanders, Jessica Hopkins, and Jamila Hopkins all of Lyons; four brothers, Gary (Kesha) Matthews of Mt. Vernon, Joe Sanders, Jr of Vidalia, Gerrod Sanders of Augusta, and Aaron (Sandra) Gaffney of Atlanta; a wife, Kimberly Taylor of Texas; a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends also survive.
