Veila Jean (Greer) Powell

Veila J. Greer Powell, age 58, passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at Community Hospice Inpatient Center in Vidalia surrounded by her loving family.  She was born in Lyons on February 3, 1963, to Kenneth Greer and Hazel Jeanette Hutto.  She had lived in Reidsville most of life until moving to Collins 18 years ago.  She was a security officer for many years at TUMI Luggage in Toombs County.  Mrs. Veila loved to take craft sticks and make all kind of things including Church Steeples, barns, and houses.  She also loved to draw and cook.  She attended Pine Grove Baptist Church in Collins and was preceded in death by her father, her husband of 36 years, Jerry Powell; her maternal grandmother, Ethel P. Hutto; sister, Sheila McCoy; nephews, Clay Ryals and Shane McCoy; aunts, Mavis Wilds and Loreatha Lynn.

She is survived by her son, Justin (Kellie) Powell of Glennville; mother, Jeanette Greer Lynn of Collins; brothers, Dennis M. (Brenda) Sapp of Reidsville, Charles Wendell (June) McCoy of Claxton, and Charles Lynn (Susan) Greer of Glennville; sister, Teila J. (Walter) Driggers of Collins; granddaughters, Samantha and Tabitha Powell; grandsons, Leland and Hunter Powell all of Glennville; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends beginning at 2:00pm on Thursday, July 1, 2021, with the funeral services to follow at 3:00pm at the Chapel of Low Country Cremation and Burial with Rev. Jim Rogers and Mr. Walter Driggers officiating.  Interment will follow in the Reidsville City Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Dan Eason, Kyle Driggers, Bo Ryals, Corey Suggs, Wesley Waller, and Jonathan Sapp.
