Walter R. Simmons, age 59, went to be with our Lord Sunday May 1, 2016. Walter was a graduate of Hixson High School in Hixson, Tennessee. For the past ten years His residence was in Reidsville, Georgia. He was a long time resident of Savannah, Georgia. He co-owned with his family the River's End Campground  on Tybee Island, Georgia. Walter was previously employed by Criswell of Chattanooga as a Insurance Adjuster. He has been a self employed independent insurance adjuster for many years. He has been currently working for the last five years in Plant City, Florida. He is predeceased by his parents Joe Russell Simmons and Mary Ann Thomas Simmons.

He is survived by his wife of thirty three years Cheryl D. Whitlow Simmons; son Joseph Russell Simmons of Pooler, Georgia; Daughter Laura Elizabeth Simmons of Asheville, North Carolina; Stepson Aaron Brown of Ringgold, Georgia; Grandson, Adler Joseph Simmons of Pooler, Georgia; brother Joseph Wade Simmons of Reidsville, Georgia; sister Terry Ann Simmons Spyers of Richmond Hill, Georgia; niece Ashley Lynn Spyers also from Richmond Hill. He was loved by his family and many friends. He will be missed.

The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00am on Friday, May 6, 2016 from the Funeral Home with graveside funeral services to follow at 1:00pm from the Simmons Family Cemetery in Evans County.
