Wayne Emerson Hand
Musician
Wayne Hand, age 54, died at Ogeechee Area Hospice on Saturday,
August 17, 2013 after a brief illness. He was born October 21, 1958, in
Statesboro, GA to Clara Hand and the late Quinton Hand. Wayne was a
member of Gracewood Baptist Church. He had a great love for nature and
animals. He enjoyed the tranquility of floating down the Ogeechee River,
going to the beach and camping. His love for animals drove him to save
many from pain or death, and his compassion for even the smallest of
creatures, was limitless. Through these acts of love, he taught those
around him about the significance of life, no matter how small it may seem.
Wayne earned two degrees from Swainsboro Technical College. He was also
a talented musician who played as lead guitarist in numerous bands throughout
the southeast for a number of years. He also shared his talents with others by
teaching guitar lessons, and took pleasure in entertaining his friends and family.
Friends of Wayne would say he was happy leading a simple life. He liked to grow
his own food, and firmly believed that the best and healthiest food came from his
own efforts in his own garden. Though his life was simple, it wasn’t always easy,
but through his struggles, he was said to have become a catalyst for many others
sobriety. His life was more meaningful and inspirational than even he knew.
Wayne is survived by his mother, Clara Hand; sister, Donna Price; two sons, Ross Bryan of Savannah, GA and Sam Hand, of Gainesville, GA; He is further survived by a nephew Justin (Rose)Haddock of Statesboro, GA; niece, Anna Price Smith (Phillip) and two great-nieces, Sarah Haddock and Georgia Anne Smith and other relatives and friends. He is also survived by a close friend, Barbara Maharrey.
There will be a private family memorial for Wayne at a later date.
