William Aaron Causey

August 25, 1922 — May 3, 2015

Glennville

On Sunday afternoon, May 3, 2015, after listening to his holy scriptures and a favorite hymn, William Aaron Causey died and in doing so met his Lord face to face.

He was the third of eight children born into the family of Annie Liza Branch Causey and William Albert Causey who lived and farmed in Appling County GA.  The highlight of his life was meeting and later being married to Lillie Mae Simmons, daughter of Mary and Jack Simmons. They were married on the 19th of September, 1942. His whole world changed when she died in February of 1996.

After answering the US Army’s call to duty William Aaron served honorably in World War II Europe and returned home to a growing family. He loved all things mechanical looking at them as one would a puzzle and needing to understand exactly how they worked. This led across a long and wandering path from the pre-war shipyard in Brunswick to retirement as a locksmith for the Army at Fort Stewart Georgia.

While the puzzles of life were certainly a welcomed diversion, his true love and purpose in life was to share the “Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Bible.”  As part of that journey he was the pastor at a number of churches including Shellman Bluff Baptist, Northside Baptist of Glennville, Red Hill and Altamaha Baptist of Wayne County, Consolation Baptist near Baxley and Union Springs Baptist in Jeff Davis County. In recent years when family and friends left his home in Glennville, Georgia his parting words were most often, “Stay in The Book, I love you!”

He is survived by his brother, Bill Causey of Augusta; son, A. J. Causey (Nell) of Augusta, daughter Mary Ann Burns, son, Jim (Deneb) Causey of Glennville. His five granddaughters, Brigitte  McKeown of St Simons Island, GA, Josie Barnes of High Poin,t NC, Charissa Raynor of Seattle, Annie Erin Causey of Manhattan NY and Tina Ball of Newnan GA; great-grandchildren, Luckett McKeown, Lillie Frances Mckeown, Burns Mckeown, Savannah Barnes, Emma Barnes, Olivia Barnes, Kyle Ball and Nicole Ball. Also his sister-in-law, Margie Harrell of Macon GA and brother-in-law, Arlis Simmons of San Diego, CA. Siblings who passed before William Aaron are, Mary Lois Tanner, Irene Brown, Hazel Sapp, Liza Ridgdill, Emma Cain, and Chap Causey.

Before passing, William Aaron forged a 92 year trail of laughter and compassion. He will be greatly missed.

Remembrances may be made to: Ogeechee Area Hospice, P. O. Box 531, Statesboro, GA 30459

A private interment will be held at Glennville City Cemetery.
