Claxton,
Mr. Wayne “Pops” Kennedy, age 71, passed away Friday, March 20, 2020 at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center in Augusta. He was born in Aiken, SC on January 09, 1949 to William Henry and Frances Eloise Hodges Kennedy. He was reared in Clyo and lived most of his adult life in Evans County. From an early age, Wayne loved his country and as such went on to serve in the U.S. Army. After his time in the military he found a profession that aligned with one of his passions in life, riding the highways and byways of Georgia as a truck driver. Even after driving countless miles during the work week, he always had time for riding his motorcycle. For Wayne, however, all roads seemed to lead him to a Huddle House or Waffle House as he would always seek one out during his many road trips. After retiring, he was able to dedicate more time to one of his favorite hobbies, fishing. More importantly though, he was able to combine his love of riding and service to his country and others by joining the Patriot Guard. Selfless service to others, dedication to his family and country; Wayne will be deeply missed. He is preceded in death by his parents and a half brother, Jerry Kennedy.
He is survived by his children, JoLee (Alfred) Rogers of Claxton, William Henry (Michelle) Kennedy of Statesboro, and Carolyn Kennedy (Scotty Burgess) of Claxton; eight grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 25, 2020 beginning at 12:00pm with the funeral services to follow at 2:00pm. Interment will follow the funeral services at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
