William “Billy” Strickland, age 77, passed away on August 12, 2020 at Optim Medical Center-Tattnall. The Tattnall County native was born November 3, 1942 to Clinton Howard and Armilda Maree Strickland. His formative years was in spent in Glennville and he graduated Glennville High School in 1960. Following his high school graduation, he went on to the University of Georgia where he obtained a bachelor’s degree and went on to work with his cousin, Gerald, at Strickland’s Pharmacy as a Pharmacist. In 1983, he bought the business and would subsequently retire from the vocation he so loved. Always a visible part of the community, Billy was involved with civic groups including the Glennville Lions Club and Glennville Jaycees. Additionally, he served as Chairman of the Glennville Recreation Department and oversaw the city’s move of the recreation facilities to its present location. During the 2015 Georgia Pharmacy Association Annual meeting, Billy was recognized for 50 years of Pharmacy service. Then, in 2017, he was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Greater Tattnall Chamber of Commerce for his hard work and dedication to the citizens of Tattnall County. Although he loved his business and his community, nothing held a candle to his family. No matter how busy he was, he would always make time to go to the kids and grandkids sporting events. Billy was a member of the First Baptist Church of Glennville. Other hobbies centered around his love of music; he played the piano at various churches and community events. A man that gave so much of himself to his community and family; Billy will leave a void that no one can fill. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Left to cherish his lasting legacy are his children, Susan (Marc) Nobles of Glennville, Dennis (Sindy) Strickland of Glennville, and Sara (Mark) Fogle of Atlanta; ten grandchildren, Stephanie Tatum, Elizabeth Tatum, Will Tatum, Nicolas Nobles, Sydney Anne Strickland, Clint Strickland, Jack Strickland, Myles Fogle, Davis Fogle, and Annie Fogle; two sisters, Sandra Chapman of Opelika AL and Eve (Terry) Carter of Waycross; numerous nieces, nephews, and other family and friends also survive.
Graveside funeral services are planned for Saturday, August 15, 2020 beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Glennville City Cemetery with Rev. Mike Howard officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored by memorial donations to First Baptist Church of Glennville music dept 321 W Barnard St, Glennville, GA 30427
