Wilton R. Rhoden

Reidsville,

Mr. Wilton R. Rhoden, age 77, passed away Saturday, December 19, 2015 at The Oaks of Bethany in Vidalia.  A native of Tattnall County, Wilton lived most of his life in Reidsville where he was a graduate of the Reidsville High School’s Class of 1957 and also served as class president.  He later went on to attend the University of Georgia studying journalism.  Wilton served in the Georgia National Guard, but is probably best known as managing editor, photographer and pressman at The Tattnall Journal where he retired in 2000 after 30 plus years of service.  An active community member, he served on the Reidsville City Council where he was Mayor Pro Tem, he was a member of the Reidsville Rotary Club, the Tattnall County Hospital Board, the  Reidsville Development Authority, the Reidsville Zoning Board, RGR, and was the Past Master of  Rising Sun Lodge #32.  Wilton was a member of the Reidsville United Methodist Church.  He had a passion for hunting, fishing, camping, golfing and traveling.  He is preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Harriett Rogers Rhoden; his parents, Russell B. and Yvonne Youmans Rhoden, and a brother, Charles B. Rhoden.

He is survived by his children, Ramona R. (Norman) Ioane and Russ (Dawn) Rhoden; grandchildren, Tia Ioane, Chase Rhoden and Sefa Ioane, all of Reidsville. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Monday at the Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home and Crematory.  Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 22, 2015 from the Reidsville United Methodist Church with the Reverends Marc Foster and John Price, Mr. Jerry Cox and Mr. Jackie Trim officiating.  Interment will follow in the Reidsville City Cemetery with Masonic Rites.

Pallbearers will be Doug Manske, Willie Scott, Dr. Sang Oh, Roger Kennedy, Louie T. Smith, and Altamond Williams.  Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Reidsville High School Class of 1957, and staffs of the Tattnall Journal and Shuman Produce.

Flowers will be appreciated or memorials may be given to The Reidsville United Methodist Church.
