Lyons
Winsor Anderson Smith age 92 of the Stanley’s Store Community in Toombs County died peacefully at Community Hospice House in Vidalia on October 9, 2018, after a short illness and loving care at home by her daughters and Ms. Opal Gay.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harley and Eloise (Ella) Murphy Anderson; her husband, C. M. Smith, Jr.; her sister, Verda Wilkes, and brothers, Edward and Robert (Bobby/Andy) Anderson. She is survived by her daughters, Sandra Gettis of Stanley’s Store and Susan Jenkins and husband Thomas of Statesboro; grandchildren, Patience Kennedy Jenkins and husband Dwayne, and Brian Kennedy and wife Sloan of Statesboro; great-grandchildren, Megan Jenkins Douberly and husband Will of Brooklet, and Brenden and Jared Jenkins, Daniel, Ashley and Avery Kennedy, all of Statesboro; step-grandson, Tommy Jenkins and wife Serena and step-great-grandson, Virgil Jenkins, of Brooklet; sister-in-law, Betty Anderson of Savannah; and nine nieces and nephews and their children.
Mrs. Smith was born in Claxton and grew up near Manassas and Reidsville graduating from Reidsville High School in 1943. A few months after graduation she married C. M. and they made their home in the Stanley’s Store Community. Besides being a wife and a mother to two daughters she worked for a number of years as a bookkeeper in Lyons then became a beautician when her daughters were in high school, work she continued until her early seventies making many dear friends among her clients. She was a member of Marvin United Methodist Church from the time of her marriage into the Smith family.
She was independent and strong, always quick to smile and laugh, and adventuresome. She enjoyed traveling especially by car never wanting to miss what was between ‘here’ and ‘there’. She was a wonderful companion wherever she went and in whatever she did.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. Friday, October 12, 2018 at the chapel of Low Country Cremation & Burial in Reidsville.
A Celebration of Ms. Winsor’s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Marvin United Methodist Church on GA Highway 147 in Toombs County followed by interment in the Marvin UMC Cemetery adjacent to the church.
