W.L. Sikes

Cobbtown, GA

Mr. W.L. Sikes , age 89, passed away Saturday, October 13, 2012 at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro, Georgia.  The Tattnall County native had lived in Cobbtown most of his life.  A veteran having served in the U.S. Army for 24 years, he fought in World War II and the Korean Conflict where he earned a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star.  After retiring from the military, Mr. Sikes worked 20 years as a Lieutenant at Rogers State Prison.  His dedication to service continued for another 20 years when in 1986 he began working with McCall Funeral Home which later became Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home.  He was a member of Cobbtown Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Betty Dixon Sikes, son, John Sikes, parents James Henry and Sarah Sikes, and 8 brothers and 4 sisters.

Mr. Sikes is survived by his daughter, Sara Sikes of Cobbtown, grandchildren, Trent and Amanda Sikes of Glennville, Robby and Julianna Sikes of Statesboro; great grandsons Patrick and Noah Sikes of Glennville; sisters-in-law, Tommie Nell Sikes of Collins and Cheryl (David) Davis of Vidalia and his little companion Cinnamon.  Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Visitation will begin 6:00pm Tuesday, October 16, 2012 from the Reidsville Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be conducted 11:00am Wednesday, October 17, 2012 from the Cobbtown Baptist Church with the Reverend Raymond Trent and Mr. Jackie Trim officiating.  Interment will follow in the Sunlight Cemetery with full military honors rendered by the U.S. Army.
